What is your current experience vs past with braids?
Braids are such a common style in the black community. However lately I personally have noticed shift in the overall experience of braids in todays time vs the past. Some are still pleased, some are reminiscent of the past and some are absolute horror tories! Therefore, let’s yap! Share your experience in the comments below and let’s come together in figuring out how we can continue to enjoy one of our most popular styles fashionably AND healthily. <3

Braids have always been a style I have worn from toddler year to even now in my 20’s. I have always loved the creativity and paths that braids were able to create. My experience has always varied with them however from very enjoyable style to bad and even embarrassing lol! Recently though I have been finding it pretty hard to find a braider who is interested in older school practices that involve more health. I ant my braids moisturized and prepared to be in this long term style. Lately however I have been seeing so many braiders overuse the product jam. It’s tiring honestly, as a stylist I totally understand wanting. A style to look polished but not to the detriment of the health of the hair. That sucks and personally I don’t want to choose between the two. When I get my hair braided I want all my edges, I want to blink without it being too tight and I want the best of the best used on my hair by LICENSED professional. Which brings me to that topic, where is the licensing at? There are so many precautions you need to know in serving the public that someone who doesn’t know can really drop the ball on! I personally would love the return of safe spaces for braids and killing off the spaces that are not. What do you think?
